Why is Brisbane better than Sydney or Melbourne?

Today it’s close to home! We’re all unashamedly big fans of Brisbane, but what is it that makes the city so liveable?

This post is also being posted on our sister sites, Sydneyism and Melbournism, so defend your home turf!

Precisely why is Brisbane so much greater than Sydney or Melbourne?

Sydney is so crowded and fast. You can’t slow down and take the city in, or you get bowled over. The harbour is pretty but everyone is in such a hurry they don’t take notice of it.

I do love Melbourne but I think we’re luckier with the weather here in Brissie. Winter in Brisbane is nothing short of spectacularly gorgeous.

Brisbane has a great sense of humour. We laugh at ourselves and everything around us. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. And we’re not afraid to have a go at the risk of looking stupid.

Coming from Melbourne I find it hard to say this place is better, however I agree with Kath in that the people up here are much more friendlier and willing to help. The weather is also a massive one up on Melbourne, although I do miss rugging up during winter.

Sydney is full of arrogant snobs, I cant stand them

I recently moved to Melbourne and planning to move back to Brisbane. I come from a sunshine state where everybody is friendly and easy going. I think the people down here in Melbourne are very uptight and full of criticism. They think queenslanders are stupid because we are not cool enough and not out there if you know what I mean. Melburnians think they live in the best city in Australia and are smater than everyone else. They must think the rest of us are stupid; especially queenslanders. You may perhaps agree that New Yorkers or Londoners think melburnians are stupid. I am to proud to be a Queenslander. The people are friendly, helpful and not afraid to loosen up act silly for a laugh. Queensland is a beautiful state from top (barrier reef) to bottom (gold coast). Melbourne is a nice city to live in but what about the rest of the state. Everything in Victoria is so focused and centralized in Melbourne. The rest of the state is just waste land for bogans and second class citizens. I wonder why melburnians call us stupid and more of them are moving up here to live. I guess they must be stupid themselves. I can’t wait to move back home to Brisbane.

Bollocks to the comments about Brisbane being friendly. I’ve seen more barfights there and suffered more boring and intellectually draining conversation there in two and a half years than I ever have before in my life. Everyone who’s probably just visited says “Oh its so friendly and helpful”…. Question…. Have you ever in your stupid life tried driving a car in Brisbane? You’ll see how friendly and intelligent drivers and pedestrians are then.

Doing anything in Melbourne on the other hand, you’ll find people are much more open, accepting and friendly.

Brisbanites are only concerned with one thing: image. Not being well-read. Not having a great group of smart and like-minded friends. But the shallow and lifeless pursuit of image. Oh, and I would say a close second is proving you’re tougher than everyone else, by bullying your way through traffic, through the business world, and through lines in pubs, clubs and bars.

Face It Brisbane: You are Bogan-White-Trash-Central. You are the trailer-park of Australia. With the Gold Coast your inbred cousin. And you’ll never change. Thats because people who value culture and intelligence move away.

Brisbane is a great city with a wonderful climate and a great place to live. You can also comfortably swim all year round

Brisbane is the easiest city to get around: great public transport with busways that get you where you’re going quickly; a wonderful system of bikeways; and traffic that moves along instead of Sydney’s gridlock. Bus drivers in Brisbane greet you cheerfully & the buses run on time.

It is cheaper to buy a place to live in Brisbane: a $400,000 unit in Sydney is $300,000 in Brisbane, and it’s correspondingly cheaper to rent.

Brisbane has genuinely friendly and helpful people; Sydney people won’t bother talking to you unless they think they can make use of you.

The air’s cleaner in Brisbane; there are leafy green suburbs close to the CBD.

I think none of them is better. London is the best of all time.

Your welcome.
