Although lots of us use Brisbane public transport every day – there’s a great deal of relatively unknown tricks when it comes to ticketing and rail timetables or bus timetables. Perhaps you are aware of public transport tricks to travel to Brisbane Airport at little cost.

What are your ideas on saving fares or getting around town on public transport in Brisbane?

Take appropriate fares or change.
Be at your stop a good 5-10 minutes before the posted time.
Have a look at the “valid til” date on schedules. If the schedule says times are valid until x month 2009 (which a lot do), note the stop number, ring translink and request an updated schedule be posted.
Avoid any trips during school runs. If you’re a school kid, adults sit first. Then you stand and SHUT UP! The amount of foul mouthed school kids I see daily on the bus drives me *insane*. Cursing up a storm makes you look like a tool.

Whilst in the city as you prepare for your outbound bus journey home, take the time to walk to a bus stop or three behind the one you’d usually wait at.

It often means you have a better chance of the bus driver stopping for you, and you have a larger choice of empty seats to choose from.

1) all Adult trips are a rip-off. Cheaper & faster to DRIVE to town!
2) why not enrol in a full-time degree at Uni or TAFE.
3) get your shiny new student card
4) enjoy HALF PRICE travel in rip-off, inefficient, inconvenient, Translink services
5) study too hard? Well, you can always pull out before the Census date & not pay a thing! ;-)

Carry headphones to block irritating teenage banter, and that person who deems themself worthy of a LOUD inappropriate phonecall. Nothing worse than overhearing an over-share then remaining in a confined space.
Also , Translink has a feedback line – the drivers receive comments and some drivers really deserve compliments for what they endure.

Hint: Brisbane’s public transport is so overpriced it’s not funny. The bus service is rarely on time, sometimes they don’t come at all and all that time that is spent waiting is really a MAJOR waste of time. Soon it’s going to be cheaper for me to drive to work and park than it will to catch a bus to go about 8km(If you didn’t get what i’m trying to say it’s far too expensive). The Trains are of poor quality and are at least 5 years behind what Sydney has. There is nothing good about the public transport in Brisbane.

Hint #1 Get thee a GO Card
Hint #2 Be nice to your bus or ferry driver
Hint #3 Don’t be the person in a couple that thinks that a translink service is the appropriate place to make out. It’s not. Everyone will hate you for making awkward smooching sounds
Hint #4 Chivalry is an attractive trait so get up fellas and give a girl a seat

If your going Southbound on the Busway, getting on at Mater Hill saves you the school kids, and is a zone cheaper :) The walk from QUT is almost the same distance going to MH as South Bank :)
