Possibly it’s the breaking and entering, maybe it’s the bumpkins, maybe it’s a locality with a substandard reputation, maybe it’s just the substandard surrounds. Often, it’s a locality where the housing value is mortally low.
There’s a few nominees for worst suburb in Brisbane – which substandard Brisbane suburb gets your vote as a bad locality, and why?
Note: keep it nice – any racist comments will be removed.

The redlands, started off as a beautiful city and now has turned into the new logan, remove the scum i say
WOODRIDGE!!
The Gap, straight up. why would anyone desire to live there. its a deadset hole
i live in beenleigh (unfortuantly) i dont think its that bad of a place its got a bad reputation because everyone from eagleby come here everywhere is a bad place you dont just have a good place or a bad place always a mixture of bad people and good people the nicest places in brisbane all have scum there as well. yeah woodridge is really bad but why do people say logan is so bad not all of loGAn actually is and beenleigh use to be glassed as the gold coast witch i bet when it was didnt get so bagged because the gold coast is so perfect COUGH theres yatala holmview bathenia edens landing tenah menah eagleby close surrounding beenleigh if it was someone from there that caused something in beenleigh why should beenleigh get bagged…
Hi Im moving to Eagleby tomorrow… I have herd a few bad things…should I be worried?
kathy! Eagleby isn’t the nicest place or friendliest theres alot of crime in the beenleigh eagleby probaly not the best thing moving but you may like it… There are a few nice places in logan like edans landing, bathenia, winderoo,mt warren park, shailor park people say logan is the scum place of brisbane i dont beleive it… The beenleigh railway station is a place to avoid and walking streets of beenleigh, eagleby at night.
Theres not really one worst suburb in Brisbane, there are just areas that you want to avoid more than others.
Top 5 suburbs to stay away from:
1. woodridge
2. inala
3. beenleigh (and surrounding suburbs)
4. trinder park
5. ipswich (and surrounding suburbs)
the valley and the city are ok in the day, but its best to not walk around at night if you can.
Top 5 best areas(low crime rates, proximity to city, lifestyle)
1. Kenmore, Kenmore Hills, Chapel Hill
2. Graceville, Chelmer
3. Balmoral, Bulimba, Hawthorne
4. Ascot, Hamilton, Hendra, Clayfield
5. Westlake, Mt. Ommanney, Sinnamon Park, Riverhills
It really comes down to what you are used to. im not telling you to live in the best suburbs, nor am i saying you are scum if you live in any of the worse suburbs. i personally live in Corinda, which is a pretty neutral suburb. i have lived in brisbane for nearly 35 years and i can say that in that time brisbane has changed dramatically. when i first came here i would have thought that inala and forest lake, along with jindalee, were the best places you could live, and beenleigh wasnt bad either. the top 5 have not really changed since then though. guys, lets stop with the racist comments, that is what makes some suburbs nastier than others, the hate and intolerance for difference.
Hey all, My fiancee and I have just moved to Redbank plains and so far it doesn’t seem too bad. I’m not saying it’s the best suburb either for example, paying rent one day at the shopping center near us @ 10am, and there were 2 blokes absolutely pissed. The worst part about Redbank plains seems to be the hoons, all you can hear at night is people revving their cars(what I can only imagine to be their fullysickholdencommodores). I have seen worse suburbs though some parts of Inala some parts of goodna. I wouldn’t say that any suburb was entirely bad, just that there are bad seeds everywhere.
Also the people saying that the valley is a bad place, have you been lately? I used to work at a restaurant there and I had no issues, ever.
:-)
Buranda for sure. Just go to the shopping centre and you will see why.
Hmm trying to narrow down the worst suburb in Brisbane is really difficult. I would say the worst place in Brisbane would be Deception Bay, I have seen some trash there. As for the southside (Logan) it’s bad but I would not say it is the worst. @DannyF in regards to your top 5 ‘Best’ areas, I think that maybe a bit of a bias opinion but your entitled to it.
I’m going to be a purist and say that Logan, Ipswich, The Redlands and Caboolture are not part of Brisbane proper!
That being said few decent suburbs have been left untainted by the undesirables that have come with government housing.
Egaleby
biggest shit hole . it got the sewer plant there and its full of 2headed rednecks.
I am looking at moving to Brisbane from Melbourne because of work, I have two small kids (boy & Girl) under the age of 5. Hearing all these comments has made me nerves.
I have seen a lot in my life, we have all kinds in Melbourne and I can handle it, but I want to make sure that because of my work that my kids don’t end up is some hole of a suburb where safety is an issue.
Can anyone here let me know that there is a nice suburb with good schools where family can be raised?
@Tim, most of the suburbs people are talking about are south towards Logan and west towards Ipswich. The argument could be made that some og them are outside the city boundary.
I found the eastern suburbs (Hawthorne, Bulimba, Morningside etc) to be very safe and family-oriented, as are the inner suburbs such as Ascot, Hamilton etc (although the latter 2 can be super snobby). Bulimba would have to be my favorite :)
Ya, Forgot the Fortitude Valley is for hookers and junkies but so is everywhere else.
Brisbane is just full of brogans and to top it off Brisbane still has a redneck mentality. Most suburbs in Brisbane is safe including Inala and Woodridge or even the valley, these suburbs are a walk in the park compare it to places like claymore, airds and the whole of south-west Sydney.
Too many uncultured pretentious bogans and rednecks in Brisbane that’s from the inner city suburbs to the outskirts suburbs of ipswich or caboolture.
Tim Brisbane is safe if you compare it to Sydney or Melbourne. You have nothing to worry about except for the bogans which unfortunately is majority of the population. You can’t escape brogans or rednecks up here. The funniest thing are the rednecks pretending to be cultured and educated.
think you missed Paddington, Auchenflower, Bardon, Ashgrove, Toowong, Indooroopilly, New Farm, West End,
River Hills!!!! the fact that you ever though Forest Lake was a good area shows you aren’t qualified to make such a list.
There’s really no “worst” or “best”.
If you’re a bogan then there are suburbs you’ll love and you might think where I live is full of snobs and just unbearable to you. Fair enough.
You just have to be with your people and that’s where you’ll be happy.
Could someone tell me about Crestmead or Heretage Park? My boyfriend wants me to move there with him and I am terrified as I’ve heard so many negative things. I live in Vic.Point right now.
Thanks
Creastmead is fine, as long as you have gooood security, alarms and park your car off-street. I can’t vouch for the demographic of people living there though. By the way, it’s fricken inconvenient to Brisbane if you plan on commuting.
The worst suburbs are usually in the outskirts — Redbank, Ipswich, Caboolture, Morayfield, Kippa Ring, Logan, Woodridge, Deception Bay, etc.
who r u kidding honey i live there too and beenleigh is the new eagleby! eagleby is getting flushed out with retirmement villages and beenleigh is building more comission homes u do the maths we act like a logan suburb thats why we got turned into a logan suburb
… and graffiti art is bad because?
I agree they are all fantastic suburbs, I used to love living in Ashgrove, but the crime rate is high. Me and most of my mates used to break safes every second night. The amount of crime and drugs that goes on around those suburbs is high due to city proximity.
Around 2000-2007 we had at least 15 dealers living in the Red Hill/Paddington/Bardon/Ashgrove/Gap area… I know that because I knew them all and dealt with them.
Not to mention the amount of OD’s in Ashgrove plaza, Under Redhill 7-11, Paddington (all over the place). My X OD’d in the paddington icecream shop that used to be across the rd from the hardware store/Kookaburra Cafe, and the dealers used to sit there for hours at a time, customer after customer would come sit down like a casual reunion and make an exchange and take off.
Crime was high, and the amount of pawnbrokers in the area shows that.
That, and now that Jim Foras is retired and Kate Jones is the local MP. I love Kate, I went to school with her, lived in the other side of a duplex with her and we were good friends. I have a huge respect for Kate and she is a fantastic polly. But Jim was the best local MP I’ve ever known. He would always be in his office and wouldn’t screen people coming in off the street. He had time for EVERYBODY.
No1 mentioned Kalanga, I’m surprised. I’ll probably move there soon to. Good cheap rent. Full of community Housing.
Tim, Red Hill is good if you want a safe, family home suburb. Kelvin Grove is good too. They are inner city suburbs so they can be a bit expensive but if you have to travel to the city everyday then the expenses of travel will make up the difference anyway. If you have lived in ‘Bad’ Melbourne or Sydney suburbs for a long time then the ‘Bad’ suburbs in Brisbane will seem like a walk in the park.
People constantly go on about how bad Ipswich is…. my question when was the last time you were out there??? they have gorgeous parks, great shopping beautiful houses on large blocks of land, great art community, lots of sports for the kids, plenty to do, trees everywhere.. and a friendly atmosphere… last time i was in the valley my car got trashed, at West end couldnt hear myself for the amount of traffic, brisbane city is great if you like fumes and crowds and rude people in a rush… last time i was at the gold coast i saw homeless people wandering around, 2 fights, police and ambulances everywhere… i guess it depends on what you deem as a good area…. Ipswich is changing, go check it out before you diss it.
well said.
the logan/woodridge area … glad I got out of woodridge. Someone a block down from me shot their wife not long before I moved out of there, and another guy in my unit complex hung himself.
You all say eagleby is a bad place or full of red necks! It’s not I live in eagleby! It had a bad name like 10 to 20 years ago from all the teens back then causing trouble! Today it is a nice quite area to live in! All new houses going up! Yeah there are a few bad apples around here but every area has bad apples! Eagleby is starting to turn into a nice place for families! the houses have big back yards so you can have a good back yard for the kids to play in! Yeah ok the eagleby mall isn’t a Westfield but it does the job for a quick shop l! When I 1st was looking for a house EVERYONE was saying it was a sh*t hole n a bad place and not to move there for it was a place is full of bad people but I didn’t listen I found a nice house n moved in this area n have had no problems in fact I know all my neighbors n they are all nice people n friendly now my friends are looking for houses in eagleby! Places change its only takes one bad thing in a area to happen then next minute it’s got a bad name for life it’s really stupid I think
Crestmead by far is the worst. Anything within 5 -10 minutes of Creatmead is mostly ghetto living. Women who are tougher then the men. And that is not a good thing. Don’t worry about the commute to Brisbane. No professional people from the locals in Crestmead.
I used to live in Crestmead and am so glad to be gone from there. I am not a profesional so the other posters are right. Crestmead wrecked my life. If I can ever get out of QLD I will be happy. No culture here. Most people here have never been out of their own street. As soon as I can I will be out of here. Ferals and crime here.
I travel all the time just to get away from this.
I have lived in some sh*tty places in my life and i now reside in eagleby. Eagleby is actually pretty nice, and Beenleigh is even better. Its a case of a few bad eggs taint the area. I have seen more fights, more drugs and more bogans when i lived in morayfield than what i have seen here. I live in a beautiful street, with gorgeous trees and great neighbours. It seems that people who are ruining it for others are people who are younger and have no social conscience. Im 24 and im trying to make a home that i can be proud of in an area that i can be a part of.
Ipswich is not a Brisbane suburb nor is it the worst area to live. People highlight Inala but the Inala shops are a terrific place for Vietnamese markets that most queenslanders ignore because of fear of the foreign or alien. After returning to Brisbane its clear that the attitudes to ethnic minorities is one of tolerance rather than embracing difference and in this regard it’s a bit redneck. Most Brisbane suburbs are excellent by developed western world standards. After the floods I’d go for high ground not the expensive flood prone suburbs like Chelmer or Graceville which are way overpriced. If you want to live near the river the lesson is be prepared to have sufficient treasure to restore your home after flood as the insurance companies will not cover people living in many of the so called best suburbs. I think anywhere on the train line is good and more convenient than suburbs only served by bus although the Brisbane bus service beats most cities hands down
Nadebaum, like it or not, Ipswich IS a suburb of Brisbane. Have a look at how the Federal Government defines Brisbane (check out the ABS). Recent versions of the SEQ Regional Plan have encouraged local communities to develop their own image and brand – which is a good thing – but it’s come at the expense of a unified Brisbane and a unified brand. This is the thing about Brisbane which is most obvious after coming back home 7 years ago – we are a city heavily divided by council boundaries. This doesn’t exist in Sydney or Melbourne where both cities are much more united and promote a single strong brand of the respective city.
What are you on about? Ipswich is a city in its own right, with its own city council.
As is Penrith, Parramatta, Cambelltown, Cronulla(Sutherland), and several other outer suburbs in Sydney. You see, you’ve demonstrated my point perfectly.
Ipswich isnt even bad anymore… I have just moved to Ipswich – I live in Brassall and have had no problems… Everyone who goes on about Ipswich, have you even been here lately?? All the bogans hang out in the mall so avoid there… and Yes it has some bad suburbs but what city doesnt!?! I used to live in Mt Gravatt and most of the street was scum.. I have much better neighbours now and the traffic is 100% better!!
Ipswich is its own city but is still apart of Brisbane metropolitan… But to me Brisbane is just the areas in Brisbane city council.
I think everyone is getting too excited here. Before you scare yourselves, stop freaking out the people who want to move up here. I’ve had to move many times because of work, I can tell you it doesn’t matter where you live in Australia. If you hang around trouble, trouble will hang around with you. It doesn’t matter if your in the country or the city or in between, just remember the old sayings – dont lend out your partner, dont lend out your car, dont lend out your lawn mower. They will not come back in the same way.Trust your feelings on people, don’t judge a town because of a few bad eggs. They are eveywhere even over seas.If you have kids, talk to people in your area, find out what school their kids go to, and ask them what they think? The guy moving up from Melbourne, we all know what it’s like down there, stick to people like yourself. You’ll be ok.
Well I have to agree with Kayecee. It doesn’t matter where you live. Your home is your castle. It’s not just scum you have to worry about. There is mother nature. It can strike anywhere at anytime. I brought a house in the Logan area. It’s coming upto my 11 year, I have had no trouble. I have great friends and neighbours. i move from a tiny town out back, and my home was burnt to the ground by a bush fire. One thing I have noticed QLD people are very judgemental on others. Just like the poms? I have met a few people through my job from Inala, Beenligh and Ipswich, and they are quite nice chaps.
Well, Deception Bay has a bad reputation, but I’m from there and I go to UQ, studying science with a major in bioinformatics. I think if everyone thinks negatively and tell ppl they live in a total slum, then they start to turn it into one.
Well instead of going on about the bad places… Because one person can have a bad experience and another can have a totally positive one… So..
Personally, I like Mt Omanney area, it looks nice and I like their shopping centre but I think it is expensive to live there.
Loganlea sadly should be on the list. I’ve lived here for 12 years with my family and it can be very good and then bad! The first 10 years not an incident, the last 2 years we have our number plates stolen 3 times, 3 attempted breakins (1 successful) house ransacked, burgled, house keys stolen and car stolen (our departure was being watched). Grafitti on fences is an expectation. Adolescents walking bending street signs neighbours see and report. Tree branches all along our roads are regularly damaged – an expectation now. I found a man urinating against a tree on my front lawn when I drove home from work at 6pm. I left some toilet paper out there for him for next time. Regularly adolesents sit in the middle of road, they don’t move, we drive around them. I feel for the elderly nearby who take great care of their homes presentation but notice they are getting hit with fence grafitti the most. Neighbour walking over overpass Loganlea Railway Station said he called out to man going car to car along station road (communters cars) systematically stealing number plates. My son sees regularly drug deals going on, instigated by a shirtless man who feins mobility problems by using crutches, only to walk away from the station after the deals with the crutches under his arm. Police are putting in a pretty good presence now and i can see they are talking to young folk and building a positive rapport with them. A colleague had her side car window smashed 3 times in 3 months as she parked on Station Road and commuted to University. We are constantly asked by commuters if they can park their car near our driveway so to be further away from thieves but it just brings the thieving closer to us. I worked at Logan Hospital and at 7am at least once a week I would see remnants of some poor sod’s car broken car windows. Hospital Security system is great and watch for repeat offenders coming on hospital grounds – yep they come back – dumb as they are. My car’s lock was broken with a screw driver, they took away an attache case of bills!. Loganlea High School has a very proactive principle where if his students are identified as hooning or being nuisance he asks for description, any identifying info and will find and collar them. Now in saying that I have the nicest neighbours on either side who are very caring and have been so for 12 years. The hospital is very accessible, the Uni and Tafe are great and transport in and out by bus and train is well schedled. Unfortunately my sons have grown up witnessing (from other end of the street) terrible domestric fights – kiss kiss bang bang allright! police invasions not usual to apprehend or officers to serve warrants. Unmarked police cars engines purring for hours at night watching comings and goings of certain houses. We have seen our fair share of ambulance attendances as well as Channel 7 news hounds in the street. On the upside council and developers are going to pour some money into this area!. There is a new supermarket going up near McDonalds and the shopping complex at Meadowbrook have IGA staying open till 8pm (thank you IGA) Plus a great gym has just opened up. hope this helps.
Brisbane is one big sub-urb all the way from the NSW border through to Caboolture and there are nice people and not so nice people and nice houses and not so nice houses in all but the very newest estates.
I can’t believe how you all don’t notice how UGLY the main commercial ares are in any part of Brisbane….if you blindfolded someone from brisbane and took them to anothe area they would take a while to work out where they were.
Your local councilors perpetuated this ugliness and you and your neighbourhood small businesses contributed – SHAME,SHAME,SHAME where is the beauty? where is the nature? where is the art & culture?
The troglodytes who spew out the commercial television nightly news and current affairs and the pseudo intellectual posers at the ABC are so wrapped up in this hideouseness that you all just think it can’t possibly be any other way.
Read some of the moronic comments on this page and you get a tiny glimpse into the lack of depth of thought of the average Brisbanite.
No wonder there are comments about “scum” etc. these are your fellow humans who through lack of education (their Primary & High School teachers turned them off learning) make their way and behave in a way that they believe they have to in this nepotistic judgemental so called society.
So you’ve all contributed to constructing an urban environment where the major landmarks are the tall mastheads of American fast food outlets and the main cultural focus are the big palaces of retail.
Things have and are continuously changing in all parts of Brisbane and especially in areas like Logan. I have lived in Brisbane for 11 years and have noticed a trend being established of more and more young people wanting to move closer to the city and rent rather than own for convenience sakes. All what matters to them is the shopping, dining out and that extra sleep in the morning. It doesnt matter if they live in a near dilapidated house that they’ve bought for a fortune.
I live in Waterford, Logan (formerly Gold Coast) and its a beautiful suburb with lovely views – all within 35mins (consistently timed) drive to Brisbane Central Station. An express from Loganlea will reach you to Southbank Station in 25 mins. Modern houses are being built in new estates with larger lands money can buy than what they can in areas around the CBD. Shopping centres are sprawling up and the bad crowd are quickly dissapearing. I feel utterly ashamed to bring this up but when most parts of inner Brisbane were inundated in water last year, Logan had the least amount of troubles. John Paul College, Canterbury College, Rivermount College are in the Top 20 Schools of Brisbane.
Point your finger at Logan only should you find a crime free suburb!!
Have a go at the douchebag anonymous just above Waterforder!
I lived in Annerley for over 10 years before moving to Eagleby 2 years ago. I am so much happier here, yeah the shopping centre is dodgy and there are a lot of people around that obviously dont take care of them selves, but over all i find that most people are very friendly. Houses are cheap, most have good big backyards. I owned a small two bedroon unit in Annerley and for 20k less i now have a great big house with more than enough room for a family of four and now i can have dogs.
Cant forget the fact were 30min to brisbane CBD and 30 min to the Gold Coast.
I definitely dont regret the move!!!
Woodridge hands down, I am only a teenager but I know that place is crazy, I went there with my friend and these 2 girls about the same age asked for intercourse: we didn’t even know them, my uncle got punched in the head for no reason at the train station.
Ok im sorry to say brisbane has a lot of racist people here, there are still some nice people here but i have never experience this much racisms in my life since i have moved here. im from canada its very multicultural overthere and im a an asian canadian, and when we first arrived here some young punk kids trying start a fight with my husband…this is ridiculous. there are bogans everywhere just be careful i heard logan and ipswich is pretty dangarous i would stay away from those areas…and what the hell is wrong with local australians making racist comment about asians and indians if you guys dont want us to be here then dont allow foreigner migrate into your country
Just to let people know, I live in Eagleby, and it’s not all that bad. Sure, you get the occasional hoon that screeches around the corner, but we all have that. So stop being so snobbish and stop ragging on Eagleby and Beenleigh. If you ask me, the real dump nowadays is The Gold Coast. Every time you turn on the news, there’s some home invasion or convenience store hold-up, and it’s always smack bang in the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is the new Fortitude Valley, IMO.
I left the Gold Coast for Eagleby. Eagleby is so great.
Gold Coast people are definately more snobbish than the Eagleby residents
Just read this article from Nov 11. It shows the big picture of crimes in and around Brisbane. It also show the perception that people have in relation to a place might be wrong.
http://www.news.com.au/ipswich-winning-the-fight-on-crime/story-e6freoof-1226207481792
I totally agree with all you Eagleby folks who think it’s a lovely place. I have lived in Eagleby for 3 years, and never had any trouble walking the streets at night or seeing dodgy drug deals at the shopping centre or anything like that. The parks are beautiful and largely empty so it feels like you have your own place to go to get away from the world most of the time. The occasional hoon is around like they are in every suburb, but that doesn’t happen very often. The shopping centre is like a big country mall, where you can get everything you need and can always find somewhere to park, don’t have to wait for hours in cues, and there is little or no graffiti. Anything you can’t get there is only 5 minutes drive away in Beenleigh. I lived at Kingston for a while and can’t believe it isn’t mentioned here as the worst suburb ever, full of crime and dirty and messy.
Forest lake. Nice suburb. The trouble is its right next door to Inala. There are a lot of low life living there. I feel for the normal people that live there. But there is some burgling scum that jump the fence and don’t deserve to breath.
INDOOOROOPILLY!
Hubby & I are moving to Brisbane. I’ve never been there before & wondered where would be a nice place to live that would also have amenities like cafes boutique shopping & nice new apt,s but also be convenient to drive to Ipswich to work in peak hour? Help, totally in the dark here! Is traffic horrendous in the mornings on Ipswich hwy, heading out of the city? I don’t want to live in brisbanes worst suburb :)
G’day Pip, I think as others have said, Ipswich (the suburb not the council area) these days is a lot better than what it was, but some of the nearby suburbs are still a little dodgey. I guess that’s what happens to some suburbs in the outskirts in any city. However, if you’d like to live in a nice area closer to Ipswich without having to contend much with city-bound traffic, try the Centenary suburbs – Westlake, Middle Park, Jindalee, Sumner Park, etc. Those suburbs are just off the Western Freeway and about half an hour to Ipswich, and half an hour to the city.
Hi Michael, thank you so much for that info. I’d been looking at jindalee and sumner park on the map and figured that it was half wayish between brizzie cbd & Ipswich . Hubby has been vocal about not wanting to travel longer than half hour to work in the mornings, but I don’t know if traffic heading out to Ipswich flows well in peak hour or if it’s a bit of a slow crawl? Anyway I will now search jindalee and see what housing is like. Thanks again Michael, cheers Pip
Hi everyone I am moving to Brisbane at the end of the year with my husband and baby. My husband has a job in archerfield and we are looking for somewhere in our price range no further than half an hour away. I have seen some really cheap houses around collingwood park and eagleby plus surrounding areas. I’m not looking for an upperclass suburb just comfortable and safe. Any opinions about these or any suggestions? The problem is the price and the house size!
To the muppet who believes Beenleighs surrounding suburbs are dodgy…get ur facts straight. Windaroo and Bahrs scrub are fantastic suburbs…
I’ve lived in Eagleby for 27 years. I have never had a break in, never been a victim of crime, never seen a crime. I love it here and I’m proud to raise my son here. There is good and bad in every suburb, I’m sure I could rattle off 2 good things and 2 bad things for every suburb in the greater brisbane area. Just because one person’s experience is a bad one doesn’t mean they all will be.
That is so true. There is good and bad everywhere! Thanks for your reply. I will definitely be checking eagleby out! : )
@ Ryan – You’re so right. People in the gold coast think they’re all that, and look down the nose at us ‘lower income suburbs’. A few days ago, I was watching the news about how ‘The Gold Coast People Are Angry About New Water Rates’. Get over it, I say. They’re the ones who are wasting the most water, anyway. I travel through the GC to get to and from work, and all the time, I see these posh GC snobs, out there, hosing off their driveways, sprinklers on fall ball in the yards….I feel like sticking my head of the car window as I drive past and shout “Aha! So you were the cause of the draught those years ago!”
Forest lake. The kids from the forest lake SHS go up to the mall shop lifting and selling it at the school. And of course being right next door to Inala…. Those turds jump the fence all the time and have a ball in Forest Lake. We have been hit twice. Have now installed security cams etc.
Deception Bay is the worst.. then Morayfield, Caboolture, Browns Plains
ZILLMERE!!!
My friends, both professionals, bought a huge house in Loganlea 2 years ago. Neighbours are polite, friendly. Both commute easily to city jobs, children go to private school and are picked up by school bus nearby door. All amenities are close and within walking distance. Working as I do at Logan Hospital I already appreciate how great it is to have all these amenities so close.
Definitly Ascot. I know a guy who went there to steal TV’s and the police showed up like 5 minutes after he was done because theres too many snitches. terrible suberb
Deagon especially the area behind the High Schol
Sunnybank Hills was a pretty dodgy place. Lived there for a few years and had about 4 / 5 break ins, almost got stabbed once, had bogans and ferals screech, yell and make racist comments out of cars during my walk home from the bus stop, once or twice they even did it in front of our house.
Although Logan, Ipswich, Inala, Woodridge, sunnybank, Macgregor and the Valley probably top my worst suburbs list.
Woodridge (logan central) is the BEST!!
i live there and after moving from a suburb between greenbank and brownsplains
1.woodridge as alot of shops very very convenient. shops open till midnight or shops that are open 24/7!
2.not 1 but 2 train stations!!
3.woodridge is very very quiet peaceful suburb never ever had a problem there in the last 5 years
4 a very nice park over looking the main street.
5.buildings that change colour at night cool!
6. rego department just down the road
7. club sports such as football and soccer are played at the park twice a week.
8 a huge public swimming area for kids and adults.
9.lots of new developments happening just down the road
10. no crime in woodridge mentioned on the radio or t.v (SUNNYBANK as had 3 recent stabbings)
11. some houses in woodridge can sell for between A$500 000 and A$800 000
12.logan city council as made lots of nice gardens and parks in woodridge and done alot to tidy the suburb
up!
13. lots of big businesses such as furniture, electrical, fashion and beauty and coffee shops everywhere in woodridge.
14. THE WOODRIDGE SCHOOL IS REGARDED AS ONE OF THE BEST SCHOOLS IN QUEENSLAND!
overall i have found woodridge to be a more improved suburb then most others and i find it to have shops so close and convenient a train station to take you to brisbane CBD or gold coast beach. its so quiet at night you can here your own heart beat and yourself breathing.. no pests such as mice or rats. AND as for security the is a massive police HQ in the same suburb reason why crime in woodridge is so low these days..
bad suburbs ARE boronia hts, brownsplains, forest lake, ALL OF THE GOLD COAST, SUNNYBANK, MECGREGOR ACACIA RIDGE, YATALA , RUNCORN, SALISBURY AND thats all
I live in Calamvale/Algester I love it here. The school is not the best State School but there are heaps of private schools on the southside that are good (so i have heard). The shops are great ( i have 5 Woolworths with in 5 mins drive from my house) the bus network is great, unfortunately there is no train station close enough :(.
Sunnybank is close and I love it the food is awesome. Acacia Ridge has the best priced Woolworths especially on Wednesdays.
Algester State Primary School is a very highly regarded primary school (most children go to private schools for high school or to Calamvale, Stretton or Runcorn your catchment determines this).
I have lived on Southside all my life and would not live in Inala, Forest Lake, Browns Plains or Rocklea… everywhere else yes… even Acacia Ridge (full of lovely old people now on the other side of Watson Rd, the bad area is near the police station).
And I have heard very good things about woodridge school too.
I too think it all comes down to what you were brought up with, if you were brought up surrounded by million dollar homes then you probably wont want live in the mid/lower class areas. Live within your means and make the best of it.
AND as for security the is a massive police HQ in the same suburb reason why crime in woodridge is so low these days..
bad suburbs ARE boronia hts, brownsplains, forest lake, ALL OF THE GOLD COAST, SUNNYBANK, MECGREGOR ACACIA RIDGE, YATALA , RUNCORN, SALISBURY AND thats all
Hi I am thinking of moving to the waterford – marsden area in a few months but my partner works at Coopers Plains and I was wondering how bad the traffic is in peak hour to and from that area?
thanks
Just got my house broken into 2 nights ago in Sinnamon Park mine was the 4th house they did that night and the whole suburb was crawling with coppers and dog squad, the buglers continued breaking in and in the morning we found out that there were 7 break and enter so far reported in one night. Its a pity that I didn’t sink my crawl hammer into his back while I was chasing him. Remember kid I saw your face I will hunt you down and I will bleed you like I bleed my pigs
I have lived in Woodridge for approximately seven years now and apart from one noisy neighbor I really haven’t encountered as many undesirables as when I lived in the Northern Beaches (richville) in Sydney. As for uncultured and bogans everywhere… Yes we have them in Logan, when I lived in Brisbane we had them and yes when I lived in Sydney we had them. But they are not the majority! People need to open their eyes and look at themselves before judging everybody else!
Violence isn’t the answer Victor. Your attitude is adding to our problems, now this person you speak of will probably start carrying a gun and accidentally shoot some poor unsuspecting innocent. Disappointing.
Dee,
I have sleeping kids in the house and 70 year old in the living room when he struck think of the suitation that might pan out if something does goes wrong. I have no issue of removing this person from the gene pool thus making everybody’s environment safer. My point is what will happen “if” he was caught I belive he will be out on the street in no time having a fully suspended sentense.
You never been there I have!
Eagleby is a great place to live, I bought my house 3 years ago, have great neighbours, lovely quiet street.
Lots of new housing going up (not housing commission) really tidying the place up. Parklands are lovely and very well kept. Like all suburbs you have good and bad, hoons and out of control teenagers would be the biggest problem. Location is great for commuting, straight onto the M1. I have lived on the Gold Coast and will never live there again. In my opinion the hard working everyday people living in Eagleby who take pride in their property and surroundings make this suburb a great place to call home.
you can dress up a turd with pretty flowers but it’ll still be a turd.
most places are pretty average, and some of the outer areas are bad/unsafe but that’s normal though, that’s how most cities are designed, they push the poor out and bring the rich to the center, pretty much separating into different class zones, like in the movie “in time”
i’m not sure why the author of this blog decided to write about this in a negative direction, i have no idea. i’d much rather read about the ‘best’ places to live in brisbane instead.
i found eight mile plains genuinely nice to live, i also liked south bank and kangaroo point. but even in all of the nicest places there are idiots, just because they’re in a nice area/house/neighbourhood unfortunately it won’t change the core mentality of the people.
if you need to move i say move close to your mates or just drive around and get a feel of the suburbs and see what you can afford and find satisfactory. i remember visiting a friend in sydney, i was pretty worried someone would jump out with a knife, it was like the ghetto i see in american films.
Anywhere with groups of people wearing nautica, tommy hillfinger, nike, adidas etc. Lawnton, Bray Park, Strathpine. Come here if you love your house broken into, random stabbings, muggings and being jumped for no reason.
LIKE I HAVE SAID PEOPLE WOODRIDGE IS THE BEST!! AND THE WOODRIDGE SCHOOL IS THE BEST FOR KIDS!! NO VIOLENCE REPORTED IN WOODRIDGE FOR YEARS! AND NOW MORE PEOPLE BUYING AND LESS PEOPLE RENTING! I WATCH THE BLOKE ACROSS MY HOUSE IN WOODRIDGE GET HIS OLD HOUSE KNOCKED DOWN AND REPLACED IT WITH A BRAND NEW ONE! AND IN THE NEXT STREET FROM MY HOUSE IN GOOD OLD WOODY MORE NEW 2 STOREY HOUSES BEING BUILT EVERYWHERE ! PINE RD LOOKS SO NEAT AND TIDY AND THATS 2 STREETS FROM MY HOUSE! WOOD RIDGE IS LOOKING UP AND DOING GREAT
THE BEST SUBURB FOR INVESTORS! PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO BUY COSY OLD HOUSES WITH GENEROUS BLOCKS OF LAND FOR A VERY GOOD PRICE AND ENJOY TURNING A OLD HOUSE IN TO SOMETHING WONDERFUL AND MODERN ! WELL WOODRIDGE IS THE BEST POTENTIAL ! LESS SPENDING ON MASSIVE HOUSE PRICES AND MORE TO SPEND ON MODERN RENOS AND GADGETS FOR YOUR HOUSE !
ONLY IN WOODRIDGE CAN YOU AFFORD THAT. IN OTHER SUBS’ YOU SPEND BIG ON THE HOUSE PRICE BUT THE AREA IS VERY AVERAGE JUST LIKE THE HOUSE YOU BUY IN THAT AREA!
BUT IN WOODRIDGE YOU GET A HOUSE WITH CHARACTER A HOUSE THAT CAN REALLY BE TRANSFORMED!! AND YOU CAN AFFORD TO DO IT ALL IN THAT AREA!
FOE EXample FOREST LAKE MIGHT HAVE ALL THE TRENDY TRIMMINGS BUT THE HOUSES ARE EXPENSIVE AND NOT REALLY THE GREAT THE STREETS A TIGHT AND DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AROUND ON AND THERE IS MORE DRUGS AND TROUBLE THERE IN FOREST LAKE THEN WOODRIDGE ! YOU PAY $400 000 TO BUY A RUBBISH HOUSE IN FOREST LAKE AND HAVE HALF THE GREAT CONVENIENCES THAT WOODRIDGE HAS ! MORE YOBBOS IN FOREST LAKE AND SUNNY BANK AND IN MACGREGOR!!!
I read the 10 first comments and have to say, yes there are good and bad parts to all areas.
However we are not resolving the bogan issues.
The parents raise ese bogans in logan then allow them to move to other areas and standards drop.
We need to kick people in the but now to raise the standards and remove the bogan from all.
My hubby and i moved to brisbane from sydney 5years ago. We initially rented a beautiful place in forest lake as it was close to my hubbys work. We had no issues, the shopping centre has everything you could ask for, lots of cafes to choose from and the pub restaurant is 10 out of 10. We have travelled to vietnam a few times and love their culture, needless to say we loved inala! We would eat out every friday night there for 20 bucks and the restaurant owners are just lovely. We cook alot of asian as well so it is great to be able to go to the markets on a sat morn, grab fresh veges and herbs and it is cheap. We brought a propert in springfield lakes a year later and to be honest, it is one of the newer and betterlooking suburbs around brisbane, affordable, only 25 minutes to the city also. I would certainly recommend it for families, you are close to the motorway for easy access to north, south, east and west. I will say however it falls under ipswich council, which did disturb me a little in the beginning, however, i would not live anywhere else. Infrastructure is booming out here, it is a masterplanned community with vision of being the next parramatta of sydney ie. Size… Orion shopping centre is only in stage one but again has all your major shops a great japanese restaurant, coffe club, toscanis and medical facilities. I am proud to say i live under ipswich council, they have plenty of money to spend and i beleive we picked a great investment. It is nice to go walking down along the lakes where people stop and say hello or have a chat, very easy to meet people here, you will love it
i asked friends about which suburb they thought was the worst suburb today and i gave them to choices to choose from FOREST LAKE or WOODRIDGE ?? and after debating it and giving it a good thrashing they all agreed on Forest lake being worse then woodridge.
mostly cause forest lake is surrounded by suburbs that today have a very bad reputation and the houses in forest lake are not worth the money you pay for them and that there is not as many conveniences in forest lake..
woodridge is surrounded by alot of suburbs that have become very good and safe suburbs in the past 10 years, the mention of crime in woodridge is very low (if not any at all), and woodridge houses are more suitable for investors, renovators or families look for a large affordable home
forest lake to me is unsafe alot of trouble makers there and road rage is bad due to the tight little roads that are so difficult for people to drive on and drive past each other
I have lived in good areas of Inala and felt safe & I have lived in a good Ipswich suburb for 9 yrs now. Unfortunately due to having children we have many times had bikes left out on the nature strip and through our own disorganisation managed to go out a number of times leaving the home unlocked; we have never had anything stolen. we have never been broken into. Ipsich has some beautiful parks, great public transport, easy access shops and fantastic parking. As someone else said there are areas to avoid but same anywhere…dont dis Ipswich.
‘Anonymous’ & ‘Jess’ seem correct to me, plus those that say there are good & bad in all areas.
I could name places I think are not good but its all just heresay until you have lived in those areas, even then you might just be unlucky.
I have lived in and been associated with Beenleigh, Eagleby and surrounds for 25 years now, and have never had much of a problem. I used to go walking at night, and did used to worry about bringing up my beautiful blonde daughter there and allowing her out at night with friends, but they never came to any harm…..there can be the odd rough mouthed person, but I have heard wealthy people with crude mouths and bad attitudes.
Also, having lived in a few areas of Sydney, these suburbs are a walk in the park compared to some down there, now that is true. Care for each other & try to be good ourselves, hey.
Carole park. If you’ve never been there then ur lucky, it is a depressing place
Forest lake is actually a good place to live in inala is a bad place as gangs and thefts mainly happen there and forest lake is hardly ever on the news and the roads are huge and the schools are great
FOREST LAKE IS A BAD PLACE!! I WORK THERE. CARS GO MISSING FROM THE CAR PARK, THE ROADS ARE TERRIBLY SMALL, TOO MANY TROUBLE MAKERS, SURROUNDED BY OTHER BAD SUBURBS WITH BAD REPUTATIONS LIKE INALA & CAROL PARK, STINGY HOUSES THAT ARE WAY TO OVER PRICED! SEEN HEAPS OF CRIME REPORTED IN THE NEWSPAPER THAT HAPPENS IN FOREST LAKE INALA! FOREST LAKE AS A DRUG DEALING PROBLEM AND IS HOME TO DRUG DEALERS. THE SCHOOLS THERE HAVE BAD REPUTATIONS AND ARE OVER PRICED SCHOOL FEES!
WOODRIDGE IS BETTER; IT HAS QUEENSLANDS BEST SCHOOL, LARGE ROADS, GREAT HOMES FOR INVESTORS AND KEEN RENOVATORS, LOTS OF SHOPS OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT/24/7, NEW LUXURY HIGHRISE APARTMENTS IN WOODRIDGE JUST BEEN COMPLETED, 2 RAILWAYS STATIONS, ZERO CRIME MENTIONED IN NEWSPAPER, T.V OR RADIO, MORE HOME OWNERS, LESS COMMISSION AND RENTERS NOW.
My house oxley along with 6 other houses has been broken into by people (notoriously known) from sought after (by law) suburb – INALA and my jewellery -pink cloth box with zipped compartments ( wedding jewellery etc – all 22 ct – absolutely exclusive – real coral/diamonds/rubies – passed down from generations – was meant to be inherited by my daughter- with sentimental attachments) has been taken away last July. Have been looking for it in every possible pawn shops, cashconverters, jewellers at inala . Police has been successful in finding a few pieces like a set of pearl studs, small childs gold studs & diamond cluster studs (person in possession of the same in prison for ONE whole year – shame on the law system) but note more valued items like solid bangles, long drop earrings, necklaces (coral & gold) about 20 items. Insurance covered only 3 % of the total claim. My whole life- mentally & physiologically has changed since the burglary. My little one has been affected by the incident. If anybody comes across any exquisite jewellery, request… please give me a call on 0466932607. Would be very grateful, if anybody could suggest any site where I can put my request or look for stolen items (any auctions where these items are bought – any network (physical address etc).
the redlands is where it’s at YE YE!!
many of these places arent even bad, it’s just there reputation.
Waterford near Beenleigh is no longer a safe area. In the last 2 years there has been a murder suicide (baby killed), 2 hit and run accidents on my street, 1 burglary that I saw, my car broken into twice, man carrying a knife through bushland during the day, and domestic fights in some of the streets. Horribly unsafe area and not the lovely family oriented place it used to be. Rent is cheaper and people are moving here from outer areas such as Beenleigh. It doesn’t help that there is a parole and probation office 10 mins down the road. There’s a bit of racial hatred here, animal cruelty, too much burglary, hooners. Waterford is surrounded by bad areas and it’s infected Waterford! Such a shame!!
Also my car insurance went up when I moved to Waterford! More cars are being stolen from this area. There’s a car syndicate happening down the road from me as well. New cars come in every few days. I’ve seen the Police go there a few times. Today I saw about 4 Cops drive to a home and 2 ambulances. It was an awful sight. The cops were still there 2 hours later.
Kate what is the car syndicate, i hope its not the place i purchased me car from :-S
I hope it’s not either Jonathan. This is a group of guys working out of a house on Woodlands Blvd. Every few nights a new car or 2 will come in and be worked on to the early hours of the morning before it disappears. It’s mainly Holden Commodores and Utes. On average there’s about 6 cars there at any given time. Expensive ones too.
Best areas are Windsor/Wilston area, Toowong/Indro area, Ascot/Hamilton area, Bulimba/Hawthorne area. First two areas have better public transport and excellent schools. Inala great for Vietnamese food. Sunnybank good for food too. St Lucia and New Farm are both beautiful if you have the $$$.
I don’t know why people bag Inala and surrounding suburbs. What makes any other suburb better than Inala. I live in Inala now and love it. Yeah the people are a bit strange at times but is that bad? I use to live in stones corner and there is more junkies there in any 1 place then the whole of Inala. I use to allso live in Brisbane cbd and I can’t even walk the dog in the evening due to junkies and crime. Come one. Inala isn’t fantastic but it’s a hell of a lot better than what it was 10+ years ago. It’s considered a “working class” now. I live in Inala and I make more money than the regional manger of Opsm. Hahahahahaha just goes to show.
Inala isnt that bad anymore, its all vietnamese now. No crime at all. What is bad is BROWNS STAINS, i mean BROWNS PLAINS and BOGAN, i mean LOGAN!
Personally I stay away from any suburb with a train line because I’ve noticed areas near train lines are not the best. I will live anywhere if I have to and just lock up and keep to myself to avoid any dangers. I’m in Springfield lakes at the moment from forest lake. Both nice suburbs but crime is still high. I have lives in graceville (crime too high too), Sherwood (ditto), Kenmore hills (very bad crime in my street), pretty much get it everywhere and criminals seek out these locations where they think people feel safer and will be lax with security. I’ll be going to brookwater next, seems a lot more secure to me.
Oh I was looking at the map going through woodridge the other day and can actually clarify that woodridge is not Logan central. they are actually 2 separate suburbs. Just remember kids in school saying they were the same place.
