Stay home, make minestrone, and get into some extreme knitting.
The cooler months are a great time to go walking in Brisbane’s forests. (It can be a bit too hot in summer.) You can feel like you’re way out in the bush on some of Mt Coot-tha’s bush tracks even though it’s not far from the CBD. At Daisy Hill Conservation Park you’re likely to see koalas high up in the trees and there’s a Koala Centre with live koalas. Tinchi Tamba Wetlands has a beautiful track that takes you to a bird hide and over the mangroves on boardwalks. There are picnic spots and a fishing ‘veranda’ on your return.
Toohey Forest out near Griffith University has lots of tracks – look out for the goannas – and Brisbane Forest Park has beautiful water views, lots of birds and a visitor’s centre and cafe near the carpark.
