Who knows how they came to be, but everyone’s heard of a fantastic Brisbane urban legend.
Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s clearly shown to be wrong… maybe it’s such a terrifyingurban legend that you’re simply unsure what to make of it. We’ve heard about them all – apparitions, burial grounds, strange occurrences from Brisbane’s history returning to spook us all…
Have you heard a corker Brisbane urban legend from a mate – the kind of tale you’d read about on Snopes? Share your tale here, and, er… continue the misinformation!

There is gold in the river banks under the Coonan street Bridge, at Indooroopilly. The govt knows this, which is why they are so keen to make sure the bridge remains owned by them. Otherwise, a private owner could stake a mining claim and demolish the bridge to dig for gold.
Patrick Mayne still haunts the Brisbane Arcade. He never hurts anyone, but if you look up at the balcony after dark and a little old guy lifts his top hat to you … don’t look twice.
I’ve heard one that there is a matronly lady haunting Boggo Road jail. She’s an ex-warden from the women’s prison, from the turn of the 19th century.
Some people think Brisbane is becoming more interesting and diverse – this is false – and those people are called marketers
My brother used to live in Brisbane and he told me that early in the morning the authorities close down part of Brisbane so that the kangaroos can hop across from the sleeping area to their feeding grounds and then about 5pm in the afternoon the authorities again close down part of the city to allow the kangaroos to head back to their sleeping areas.
you are a damn fool!

Toowong cemetary – legend was misinterpretated – trialled and the correct fact to that is if you sit on the window ledge on the passenger side of a car whilst the driver travels up the hill your vision makes it seem as though you’re driving downhill.
There’s crocodiles in the Brisbane River.
If you walk across slaughter falls after dark by yourself the ghost of the girl will appear
I heard recently that a building above the Fortitude Valley station is abandoned and that they can’t find the owner. Someone told me that that’s why that area hasn’t been redeveloped and why so many homeless live near there. I have no idea if it’s true.
Old flour mill is haunted – ghost rearranged cutlery when upstairs was a restuarant.
Ipswich Cemetry is a vortex and has many parallel universes and cross overs in time.
A restaurant near the Ipswich Uni has an old woman called Abortion Mary – she still haunts the establishment, apparently the restuarant was two levels then and she did the abortions upstairs. Women who are pregnant and have children feel uncomfortable there.
So many sites in Ipswich and near Brisbane River could have a fantastic ghost tour.

I never meet any kangaroos in Brisbane and I know what’s happening to me here :S
If it’s me, hope that someone going to help me to know what going on???
And if some person still think that I’m BAD, I’m still in Brisbane, more exactly Manly.
And I’m not going to the airport in 1 hour, I still have my passport, I don’t ask to be an Australian citizen and my brain don’t need to be fix.
One earth, one humanity.

The homeless man in Toowong that carries millions of plastic bags is actually a millionaire.
I heard there was a tunnel from All Hallows to Terrace. While at school we would search the grounds for this tunnel.
Irish Murphys in Brisbane city is said to have a ghost called Barry. The story is that he was once a cellarman for the pub when it was still a part of The Treasury, and that he overdosed on a bottle of pills and a bottle of rum in one of the upstairs rooms. People working in the gaming room (previously the cellar) claim to still see him there regularly.
When we were kids we were told about the ghosts who would haunt the train lines opp hospital around Victoria Park golf club. We would always walk that route to get to ekka and be terrified.
